Another Chalk Painted Project...The Free End Tables

I really don't mean to keep on plugging the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  Really, I don't.  I'm not getting compensated.  There's no free paint involved at my end....I just happen to be falling in love with this stuff.  And like any gal in love....I can't stop talking about my sweetheart.

So this is how the end tables happened....

When I moved into this house, I inherited these end tables that I found in the basement.  They were on their way to the garbage and the previous owner hadn't had a chance to get rid of them...Thank goodness!  I didn't have any end tables at this point and free is definitely in my budget.  Did I love them?  No.  Did they hold up a lamp and some doodads?  Yup.  Works for me.

They had some damage to the top that I didn't think to take pictures of.   Nothing major, just some cup marks, a few scratches and the finish had worn away in spots.  I didn't even bother to fix them before I hauled them upstairs and put them to use.

And they sat in the living room for over a year.  Until....dum dum dum....(Cue the dramatic music).   Enter the ASCP in Old White.  I ordered this shade a few weeks ago for my dining room table.  I really like the look of two toned tables with painted legs and a dark stained top.   So when I picked up my order for the ASCP in Old White this week and got home and set the paint on my end table, I had an "Ah hah!" moment.  I didn't even think twice....just ripped open the lid, and started slapping on paint.  Two coats later, a light wax and they looked pretty darn sweet.

Why is there lego and toys in every darn picture I take?

Except for the discoloring on the top.  I had some Saman walnut stain sitting in the in the craft room and used a sponge brush to dab it over the lighter parts.  Once that was dry I just swiped a coat of the stain across the entire top.  It didn't cure everything but it took care of the major spots and, unless you're looking, you can't tell there was every a stain.

Gotta love a before and after...........

And a few pictures of the completed project....

Since I've been planning a few changes in this room to lighten things up, these tables were a simple up-cycle and a great way to get started. I like them a whole lot better these days.  You just can't beat free tables and a can of ASCP.

  4. They look great!! Maybe I'll have to give the ASCP a try on the nightstands in our master bedroom ~ picked them up off the curb when I was in college and they've been the same exact way since we brought them home! (7 years later!...geesh that sounds pathetic!!) Since I've been stumped for, well forever, on what color to do them, maybe I'll have to try a two toned color piece like you!! Thanks for the inspiration!
